A New Day. A New Year.

While we’re getting ready to countdown to 2009, those in Kiribati are having their first lunch of the year. Kiribati is located about 2,500 miles from Honolulu in the Pacific, and is a part the Micronesia island division. Kiribati consists of about 33 tiny islands that lie along the International Date Line. The country has become a popular tourist destination for those who want to ring in the New Year “first”.

The website, www.timeanddate.com has a cool tracker that maps out what countries bring in 2009 and when (in case you were wondering American Samoa is one of the last)… Keep this tracker handy just in case NEXT New Year’s Eve you’re adventurous enough bring in 2010 twice in two different continents. Hmmm….
