Whew…that was close.

Royal Caribbean’s newest ‘cruise ship on steroids’, Oasis of the Seas, departed Denmark on its maiden voyage to Florida on Saturday. However, its journey along the Baltic Sea got a little more ‘exciting’ when the ship barely squeezed under a bridge in Denmark. The largest ship in history, Oasis of the Seas, towers at 20 stories. The smokestacks on the ship had to be lowered in order to clear the bridge…and it made it under by a margin of 2 feet. Talk about a “Big Squeeze”. Thank goodness that’s the only bridge it has to worry about. Now it’s smooth sailing for the ship as it makes its way to the U.S.

On the Oasis of the Seas website, you can track the ship’s current location and Captain Wright even gives you updates on the voyage from the bridge of the ship…no mention of the ‘big squeeze’. Shucks. But they do have photos of its passage under the bridge in the photo gallery.

The ship is headed to its home port in Port Everglades, Florida, and is scheduled officially set sail on December 5th (with a pre-inaugural on December 1st).
