Zagat 2009 Airline Survey Results

Folks, the results are in and as it turns out airline travel has in fact turned to the likes of public transportation. Yayyyyy right? No.

The survey covered 16 domestic and 73 international airlines. Each airline was rated on Zagat’s 30-point scale on its premium and economy class service for both domestic and international flights. The airlines were rated on four aspects of their performance: comfort, service, food and Web site. Other issues such as value, on-time performance, luggage policy and in-flight entertainment also were covered.

So how did everyone weigh out?

Large Airlines Domestic Economy Class
1 JetBlue Airways lead the pack with (19 points)
2,3 Continental & Southwest Airlines both tied at (15)
4 Airtrain Airlines (12)
5 Delta Airlines (11)

Large Airlines Premium Economy Class
1 Continental Airlines (21)
2, 3 American Airlines & Delta Airlines (17)
4 United Airlines (16)
5 AirTran Airways (15)

Midsize Domestic Economy Class
1, 2 MidWest Airlines & Virgin Atlantic tied for the top positions at (21)
3 Hawaiian Airlines followed up with (18)

Midsize Premium Economy Class
1 Virgin America (24)
2 Hawaiian Airlines (21)
3 Alaska Airlines (20)

Now on to the International Airlines, where Singapore Airlines is blowing everybody out the water in economy and premium seating with a 24 and 28 respectively.

This survey which was conducted on Zagat.com includes the opinions of 5,895 frequent fliers and travel professionals who collectively took 97,600 flights in the past year. An average of about 17 flights.

I SO wish I had been apart of that group. That’s cool…I’ll just blog about my opinions.
